Request Made To America
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CAIRO, April 11.
I The United Arab Republic | has asked the United States for 150 million dollars worth of surplus food assistance for the fiscal year starting July 1, say informed sources in Cairo.
This brings the total of U.A.R. aid requests from the United States to 250 million dollars, believed to be the biggest amount ever sought by the republic in any one year. There is no indication in Cairo whether the United States is prepared to increase the amount of food aid. but observers believed it is almost certain the new programme will be for six months instead of a year, as the U.A.R. requested.
