ABATTOIR STRIKE
Work Likely Tomorrow Work is expected to resume at the Christchurch city abattoir at Sockburn tomorrow. Union representatives will report to the men at a meeting at 8 a.m. tomorrow the results of the conference called by the South Island Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. W. Armstrong) which was held on Wednesday afternoon. The meat killed tomorrow will not reach the butchers’ shops until Wednesday morning so that the shops which rely on the abattoir for their supply will have little meat available tomorrow. The 115 employees of the abattoir have been on strike since 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5. The strike was called after a conciliation meeting with the Canterbury Bye-Pro-ducts, Ltd., over pay increase demands had been adjourned sine die.
Hit By Seagull.—The anticollision tail-light on a Friendship aircraft had to be dismantled at the Gisborne Airport on Friday after it was struck by a seagull, causing a slight delay to a Wellington flight.
