Aid To Vietnam
Sir, —Could you ask Mr Holyoake on what grounds he made the statement that the “people of South Vietnam” (the people, not the Government) “have shown no wish to accept and every desire to resist” the North Vietnamese system of government? In view of the almost incredible number of desertions from the South Vietnam Army and the present demonstrations in Saigon, Da Nang, and Hue against the Government and American actions in Vietnam. 1 think there will b e many people who, like myself, are interested to know how we can be sure that what the Prime Minister says is true Alternatively, how can we be sure we will find out when the South Vietnamese (people, not Government) eventually do decide that anything is better than the wholesale burning and bombing by Americans which are now driving them in hundreds of thousands into the city?— Yours, etc., TERRY DOLBY. March 29. 1966. [The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) had no comment to make.]
