Trade Car Ban Benefits Ships To Nelson
(New Zealand Press Association)
BLENHEIM, April 5. Because of the current ban by Aramoana seamen on the carriage of unattended trade cars Nelson is receiving more new cars carried as ships’ cargo. An official of the Anchor Shipping Company, which runs a daily shipping service between Wellington and Nelson, said today there had been a “slight increase” in
the number of cars carried on the company’s ships, the Konanda and Matipo. The Puriri had made a special sailing with cars. The ban is in support of Wellington watersiders, who claim it is their job to drive trade vehicles on and off the ships. Until the ban, drivers, sent by factories shipping the cars, have taken them on board and another team has taken them off at Picton.
