AUSTRALIAN BARITONE

Schumann And Antill Songs A well-known Australian baritone will give the Thursday lunch-time recital at the University of Canterbury today. Brian Hansford, who is on the staff of the Melbourne University Conservatorium, will sing Schumann’s songcycle, “Dichterliebe,” and a work new to Christchurch audiences, “Five Australian Lyrics” by John Antill. Antill, composer of the well-known “Corroboree,” has also gone to Aboriginal sources for his inspiration in these songs. Mr Hansford describes them as “truly authentic” in idiom, creating “an atmosphere both stimulating and new” Brian Hansford will be accompanied by Maurice Till.
