Partridges Liberated

A hundred partridges, 10 to 12 weeks old, have been liberated in the Takaka Valley. They were supplied to the Nelson Acclimatisation Society by the Internal Affairs Department. The birds, all banded, were released in five groups of 20 on the properties of Mr C. Silcock and Mr H. Baldick at Uruwhenua. Feed is being provided regularly in the liberation pens but this will be discontinued as the birds venture further from the pens. Most of them are now flying. The secretary of the society, Mr J. Wesney, said the society was keen to receive reports of sightings of the birds, including the number and locality.
At present they were fully protected. “They are good game birds and will provide good sport if they become established.” he said
