N.A.T.O.
Sir,—No general political plebescite was taken by N.A.T.O. on German rearmament. Pressure by the Truman Administration resulted in two Hitler generals, Heusinger and Speidel formulating a blueprint for German remilitarisation. Commenting on the “Heusinger White Paper” calling for unilateral possession of nuclear arms. Mr Strauss, Minister of Defence, said it was “the decisive opinion of the West German General Staff.” Concurrently, private German firms had advanced so far in the production of enriched uranium that the United States induced the West German Government to classify the orocess as a state secret. The Bonn-Washington “axis" has produced the best-equipped military machine in Western Europe with such offensive weapons as the Polaris, Flo4s, V.T.O-L., and Mace, and combined with West Germany’s revanchist and revisionist attitudes to territorial questions, especially the OderNeisse line, has cancelled out NA.TX). and stood history on its head. “Peace to corrupt no less than war to waste.”— Yours, etc. WEST WIND.
