Epilepsy
Sir,—l list the activities of the Epilepsy Association which, as stated by Mrs Armstrong, would welcome new members to help and advise us: one social and one educational evening each month, an annual picnic; bus trips to places of interest; films followed by a doctor’s talk in a city theatre full of student teachers, nurses, etc. The visiting counsellor visited every member, every school in Christchurch, and a number of factories. Addresses hrve been given to groups in and out of Christchurch. Literature has been distributed and is always available. We co-operated with the Co-ord-inating Council for the Handicapped and the Canterbury
Sheltered Workshop, which trains and has successfully placed several sufferers in employment.—Yours, etc., EWAN V. NETTLETON. President, Christchurch branch, N.Z. Epilepsy Association. April 2, 1966. Sir, —I thank Mrs Dorothy rmstrong for her explanations as to publicity on epilepsy, but still must insist that not enough is being done. Can she explain why five out of six nurses failed to recognise the badge of the association? It may be that these overworked, underpaid girls are too tired to bother to watch television or read newspapers. Personally, I think that one of the first things nurses should be taught is to recognise the association’s emblem. The police cadets are. For Mrs Armstrong’s informatioi 1 am not an impostor, and I must reiterate that I purchased a badge from a chap at Whitcombe and Tombs in 1961 on the production of a medical certificate, and I naturally thought that 1 was automatically a member of the association. So it is not my fault that no records exist but rather the fault of the association.—Yours, etc., PERCY L. McMILLAN. Saltwater Creek, April 4, 1966.
