POLLUTION PROBLEMS
Council Visit To City The estuary, the Christchurch Drainage Board s sewage treatment works, and industrial and sewer discharges into the Waimakariri and Kaiapoi rivers will be inspected during a three-day visit to Christchurch next week by the Pollution Advisory Coun-
cil. Arriving from Invercargill on the evening of March 29. the party which will be joined by Government departmental and local body repre sentatives. will spend March 30 inspecting the Waimakariri. Kaiapoi and Rangiora area They will see discharges from the Belfast and Kaiapoi freezing works and from a soap works, and win discuss proposals for the discharge of domestic and industrial wastes from Belfast.
At Kaiapoi, the council will see industrial and borough discharges into the Kaiapoi. Cam and Kaikainui rivers, visit the North Canterbury Freezing Company's works, and go to Kairaki beach be fore going to Rangiora to see the town sewage treatment works. On March 31, the council will be mainly concerned with tue Christchurch Drainage Board’s area. The morning will be spent Inspecting various points on the Heathcote river, and the septic tank outfalls into the estuary and at Sumner.
The Bromley treatment works will be inspected in the afternoon, and the council will later have a meeting with the drainage board to discuss problems in the area. On April 1 the council will hold an all-day meeting in Christchurch.
