Rhodesian Mail On Way Back To N.Z.

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, March 22.

Airmail for Rhodesia, posted in New Zealand between January 7 and February 10, is on its way back from Nairobi by sea.

As soon as it is received in New Zealand it will be redirected through Sydney, the route which has been in use since the Rhodesian Government suspended mail services from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania on February 10. There is a direct service three times a week between Sydney and Salisbury. Mr M. Moriarty, the Auckland Chief Postmaster, said tonight that advice had been received that the mail was on I its way back by sea.

Mr S. S. Green, chairman of the New Zealand Rhodesian Society, said tonight he had referred to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) complaints from relatives of New Zealanders that they had not been receiving mail from home. Mr Green said there was a suggestion that mail for Rhodesia was being confiscated in Kenya. But Mr Holyoake had advised him that no information had been received from Rhodesia which indicated that this was so.

A cable had been sent to Nairobi asking when it could be expected.
