MINERS KILLED

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyrißhti TOKYO, March 22. More than 360 miners scrambled to safety when disaster struck a northern Japan coal mine today, killing two men and trapping 10 others in chambers sealed by heavy rock falls.

Eight other men suffered slight injuries in the accident, which occurred about 85ft underground at the rich Sorachi mine near Utashinai City, in west central Hokkaido.

Early reports said the cause was a gas explosion, but colliery officials reported that the mishap resulted from gas leakage and falling coal.
