Second Annual
Meeting
The University Club was described by the Licensing Control Commission as being unique in New Zealand, said the president of the University Association (Brigadier J. T. Burrows). It was the only chartered club in New Zealand run on a husband-and-wife basis.
Brigadier Burrows was addressing about 70 members who attended the association’s second annual meeting. The association had 870 members, but it was too early for self-congratulation, he said.
“The club has come well up Ito expectations since it was opened two u r eeks ago," said ; Brigadier Burrows, “but it is I still to be seen whether the association will be of help to the university and to ourselves."
He thanked Dr. L. L. Pownail, the Vice-Chancellor, and Mr N. B. Ullrich for their work in establishing the association.
The following officers were elected unopposed: president. Brigadier J. T. Burrows; vicepresident, Dr. L. L. Pownall; secretary-treasurer, Mr N. D. Thomson; committee. Dr. F. M. Harding, Miss N. Northcroft, Messrs J. R. Davidson, J. W. Reed, P. Yeoman, and N. B. Ullrich; honorary auditor, Mr R. A. Anderson. The association elected 40 new members.
After formal business, a 32minute colour film, “The University of Canterbury,” was shown.
Cricketer* Back. The main body of the M.C.C. touring party to Australia and New Zealand arrived back at London airport on Monday morning.
