PIPES AND CIGARS
Oral Cancer Relation

ATLANTA, March 21
Pipes and cigars may be a greater cause of oral cancer than cigarettes, according to the president of the Ameriman Dental Association, United Press International reported. This was possible becausepipes and cigars generated more heat.
The president, Dr. Maynard Hine, told a dental meeting here yesterday that scientists have found a “casual relationship” between lip cancer and pipe smoking. Recent studies had shown no significant difference in the development of oral cancer between cigarette smokers and those who smoke pipes or cigars. Often the smoker does not realise he has oral cancer because the disease is frequently painless until the final stages, said Dr. Hine.
