Five Plays Oil One Stage
Armand Gatti is asking great things of audiences to his new play, “Chant Public devant deux Chaises Electriques,” which the Theatre National Populaire is presenting in Paris this season, ‘"rhe Times” reported. He has five different locations represented simultaneously on a vast stage, and, taking several leaves from Becht’s and Pirandello’s books, has five casts simultaneously acting the main story (which is that of the passion and execution of Sacco and Vanzetti), each representing a theatrical company engaged in presenting the story to its own audience.
It is an original and powerful conception, but is undermined by lack of clarity in presentation.
