SURVEY TAKEN
Infertile Couples (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. The longer a couple took in having their first child the less likely they were ultimately to succeed, Dr. R. J. Seddon, senior obstetrical specialist at the National Women’s Hospital. Auckland, said today at a conference in Auckland.
A statistical survey had found that 10 per cent of women either had no children or fewer than they wanted. Discussing infertility, Dr. Seddon said the cause was often social, economic or psychological. In 20 per cent of the cases studied, the males had caused infertility. In 40 per cent of the cases infertility was caused by the women.
He warned doctors to take great care not to place blame on one of the partners only.
