‘Good—Powerful’

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. United States winemakers touring New Zealand have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of local wines. The Americans, Californian members of the United States Wine Institute, visited their first New Zealand vineyard, the Department of Agriculture's wine research station at Te Kauwhata, today. They have spent 10 days touring the scenic

spots in the North Island and South Island, and have sampled wines wherever they have dined. They told Mr P. T. Hitchcock, the manager of the Te Kauwhata station, that they thought New Zealand wines were well represented on the wine lists of hotels and licenced restaurants. They had found the local wines different to the Californian product, but “very good—and very powerful.”
