r THE Beveridge Trophy, x sailed for on the Estuary last weekend, was won by the Mount Pleasant Junior Cherub yacht Chi-anne (right).

The crew were C. W. Morgan (skipper, at left below) and M. J. Davis (for'ard hand). Morgan is a 15-year-old pupil at St Bede’s College. Davis who is 17, attends the West Christchurch High School.

Their combined weight of 21 stone (Morgan lOst) was an advantage in driving their 12-footer during Saturday’s hard sou’-wester.

The boys have been sailing together for two seasons. Last year they won the Riiind Trophy on Lyttelton Harbour.

The Beveridge' Trophy was their first major prize on the city side of the hills.

“And we nearly didn’t enter,” said a shivering Davis after the race.

Blue with cold, Morgan nodded. “We only came because our commodore persuaded us,” he said.

Then, with teeth chattering, they headed for the hot showers.
