Honourable Might Beat Bob Duff Today

"The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND. The meeting of Honourable, a six-year-old mare with a solid background of middledistance form, and Bob Duff, a dashing front runner which is having his first start in open company, promises a good run in the Cockerton Memorial at Dargaville today.

Honourable is seeking her second win in the event. She was successful last year when making her open-com-pany debut. Perhaps this time Bob Duff might do the same. The two will be the heaviest backed of the runners in the mile and a quarter race.

Honourable, at her last start and her first since resuming from a rest, finished fast for fourth behind Kangaroo Town, Elkayel and White Strand in the Hobsonville Handicap, a mile, at Avondale two weeks ago. Meanwhile, her fast work at Takanini, where she is prepared by Mr P. O’Brien, has been im pressive.

Bob Duff is in excellent form His last four starts have brought him three wins and a second.

Three starts ago Bob Duff showed his ability as a middle distance runner by leading throughout in the Spring Handicap, a mile and a quarter, at Te Rapa in November. He carried 7-12, the same weight as he has tomorrow.

Captain Lancaster, which seems to do well on country courses, and El Cid look the best changes amongst the others

Captain Lancaster, at his last start, finished unplaced in the Bollard Memorial, 11 furlongs, at Avondale. His two previous starts brought him a second and a fifth at the recent Whangarei meeting. FILLY FANCIED Pheroz Pride, a three-year-old filly from Takanini, is bound to be a hot favourite for the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Clune Handicap. Apart from Mac’s Pride and King Of The Castle, her opponents are moderate.

Pheroz Pride (Alcimedes— Pheroz Girl) will be trying for her fourth win from her last five starts. The other time she came second after being slow away. The weather has been fine and the track promises to be fast.
