The Economy

Sir, —It was with pleasure that I read in your paper of the Liberal Party’s views on the financial situation of this fair country expressed by Mr Mackintosh’s review at the South Island conference. Mr Lake must indeed be writhing at the übiquitous criticism levelled at his and his party’s financial ineptitude over the last few weeks. “Easy does it” appears to be a rapid method of stifling progress in New Zealand and hastening the country to a monetary upheaval and possible devaluation. I presume I am a “traitor” writing in this strain, but, I would sooner be that than mislead people. —Yours, etc.,

A. M. GILES. November 24, 1965.
