McCombs) told the monthly meeting of the Cashmere High School board of governors. Professor A. J. Danks has accepted an invitation to speak at the school break-up ANNIVERSARY PLANS Members of the ParentTeachers’ Association and the Past Pupils Association will meet to discuss celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the school. COLLEGES’ STATUS Commenting on the pronosed new advisory councils for training colleges. Mr McCombs said that the time had come for the status of training colleges to be raised, if not to the status of a university, then to the status of colleges in America. The work at training colleges could be brought up to the standard where training college subjects could be treated as university credits. At present training colleges. which were almost university institutions, were managed by the same administrative authority as primary schools. It was necessary to bring them under the control of university-type councils, said Mr McCombs. Board members supported Mr McCombs. CARETAKERS’ RENTS Members agreed that school caretakers should be exempt from the new scale of rent, based on five per cent of the capital value, on all Government houses. Caretakers were obliged to occupy their house by virtue of their position, and if their rent was raised to five per cent of the capital value their net incomes would be considerably reduced. In many cases they would be required to pay more than twice their present rental.
