(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright I TEL AVIV, Nov. 3.
The Israeli Prime Minister. Levi Eshkol, looked set for a fresh term of office today on the basis of partial returns from yesterday’s general election.
With about half the votes counted. his Labour Alignment emerged as the largest single party. It has about a third of the seats in the new Knesseth (Parliament).
Labour Alignment headquarters followed victory speeches with champagne toasts.
A party statement said Mr Eshkol would form a new government from “a partnership of all constructive forces in Israel, based on an alliance of joint responsibility to implement the platform of the election."
The Ukrainian-born Mr Eshkol has been Premier since 1963.
