Queen Salote Honoured

LONDON, November 2

Queen Salote, of Tonga, has been appointed the first Dame Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George. The Colonial Office said the honour was bestowed on Queen Salote by the Queen. Queen Salote, who is 65, has reigned over Tonga since 1918. She is descended from a dynasty whose earliest records date back to the tenth century. She was bom on March 13. 1900, and was educated in Auckland.
