FREEZING AWARD
Failure To Get Settlement (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. Several days’. conciliation council discussions had so far failed to conclude settlement on a new national award for the freezing industry, but a further conciliation council called for this month should reach a decision on a new award, said the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. W. Armstrong) today. Although there had been several published statements that proceedings had broken down, negotiations were still proceeding as far as he was concerned, said Mr Armstrong. “The conciliation hearing has been adjourned sine die, but 1 have now invited the parties to resume conciliation on November 23. The employers have already agreed to the proposed resumption I am now awaiting a reply from the workers' assessors." He was hopeful that the matters in dispute—holidays, wages, and overtime and others would be settled once the hearing resumed, said Mr Armstrong.
