ROMANIC AT LYTTELTON
The Shaw Savi'U Line has added another ship to its fleet. She is the 21-year-old, twinscrew Romanic, formerly the Drina, owned by the Royal Mail Lines Ltd. Commanded by Captain M. Larrive, she has a crew of 64. The 9785-ton Romanic has already called at Auckland and is now discharging London cargo at Lyttelton. For mast of her life she has sailed between Britain and the east coast of South America. Some former Royal Mail Lines officers are still serving with the Romanic. They include the master, chief officer and second engineer. The Romanic has limited accommodation for 12 passengers. She is 496 feet long with a beam of 65 feet and a cruising speed of 15 knots. Her cargo space has been designed mainly for chilled cargo. Her larger holds have many decks. The Romanic will load refrigerated and general cargo for London at Timanl and Auckland.
Building Pennits.—During September, the Kowai County Council issued eight building oermits with a total value of £1346, according to the report tf the county clerk (Mr G. A Hay) to the recent meeting of the council. The comparative value for last year was £5535. >
