Work Of Plastics Firms Praised

AUCKLAND, Nov. 2.
Few industries in New Zealand could boast the phenomenal growth of the plastics industry, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), who opened the National Plastics Show at Auckland tonight.
He said that eight years ago the industry’s output was worth £3i million; now it was £lB million. “This is five times as much a year and a phenomenal growth, or at the rate of 23 per cent," he said. “This display proves that •we do have the skill, we do have the ability, and we can make things as well as other people,” said Mr Holyoake. Mr Holyoake also presented annual awards. The judges were Mr E. L. Kropscott, manager of a plastics Ann in Michigan, Professor E. JZagorski, professor of design at the University of Illinois, and Mr J. A. T ylor, executive director of the Plastics Institute of Australia. The winners of the cotnpe-
tion were Plastic Products, Ltd., Hamilton, for an electric fence insulator; Consolidated Plastic Industries (N.Z.), Ltd., Auckland, for a milk meter; P.D.L. Industries, Ltd., Christchurch, for an electric motor starter; Plastic Products, Ltd., Hamilton, for a vaccine pack; Wilkins and Davies Construction Company. Ltd., Auc' land, for an air washer, and Plix Products, Ltd., Hastings, for a bath.
