U.S. POLICE METHODS
Study By NX Inspector
Inspector B. W. Gibson, of New Zealand Police Headquarters, Wellington, has just completed a comprehensive two-month study of the Chicago Police Departmentcomprising 13,000 policemen and women.
Inspector Gibson, son of Mr and Mrs J. Gibson, of Geraldine, is in the United States for 18 months on a Harkness Fellowship awarded him by the Commonwealth Fund of New York.
Inspector Gibson, aged 34, has already attended the School of Criminology at the University of California, and is a graduate of the F. 8.1. National Academy. He has also toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada in the last 14 months examining many lawenforcement agencies. He is highly impressed by the Chicago Police Department, according to a letter from the department, and says it compares with the best anywhere. He will study the police departments of St Louis and Cincinnati! before he returns to New Zealand.
