Two Queen's counsel and eight other barristers began making submissions to Mr Justice McGregor in the Supreme Court today on the interpretation of portions of the will of the Fintan Patrick Walsh.

Former president of the Federation of Labour, Mr Walsh died in 1063 leaving an estate of £105.000 gross and £72.000 net.

The proceedings are by way of originating summons filed by ths New Zealand Insurl

,ance Company, Ltd., as plaini tiff. The company is the exi ecutor of Walsh's will. The defendants are benefi claries under the will. The insurance company is represented by Mr F C. Spratt. Q.C., witn him Mr V. H. Peters. Mr J L Charters is appearing for the first defendant, Elizabeth Burton, a widow, of Auckland: Mr C. I. Patterson for the second defendant, Una Dorothea Cargill, married, of Waikanae: Mr P G. Hillyer for the third defendants, Elizabeth Tuohy Fogarty, married, nf Hastings, Noeline Cecilia Burton, a spinster, of Auckland, and Peter George Burton, farm labourer, of Te Awamutu: Mr W J Kemp for the fourth defendants. [defendant. Minnie Walton, a ispins!ei, of Wellington: Mr P ,1 Downey for the unborn children of the first defend ant; and Mr R W Edgeley for the unborn children of the second defendant. The Court is being asked to decide eight questions of interpretation, together with 34 sub-sections.

The questions cover a wide range from whether cut hay is a chattel, live and dead stock or farm implement to the disposal of a Holden motor-car, on which Walsh paid a deposit before his death.

Clarification is also sought as to Walsh’s intentions regarding the disposal of his shares and other interests in Bur'on Holdings, Ltd. At one stage of the submissions. Mr Justice McGregor said he was afraid that he not praise the

draughtsman of the will on his artistry. The hearing will be continued tomorrow.
