SHOP CLOSES TEA-ROOMS
“Better Use” Of Space
T. Armstrong and Company, Ltd., has closed the tearooms on the first floor of its shop in Colombo street. The company’s chairman of directors (Mr C. W. Evans) said yesterday that the tearooms had used space which was required for reorganisation. The company intended to put the space to better economic use. Part would be used for shop purposes and storage, and part would be converted into suites of professional offices.
The amount of space to be converted to office suites had yet to be decided. Some inquiries had already been made to the company about the letting of the office suites.
Work commenced last week on the reorganisation, and it was expected that the work, which included refurbishing the whole store, would take six months to complete. The tea-rooms had not been uneconomic, but they had occupied space required in the reorganisation, Mr Evans said.
