Serena Impresses In Awapuni Trial
‘‘The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Serena, a last-start winner at Masterton, was the most impressive worker at Awapuni yesterday. She ran the best half-mile of the morning on the course proper. Serena is engaged at the Rangitikei Racing Club’s meeting at Bulls on Saturday. Another Rangitikei candidate to excel was Te Pari Star. She ran a fast five furlongs on the inside trial. The New Zealand Cup candidate, Alaska, was also in fine form when he beat Janeen over a mile. On the course proper Serena shaded Tarim over half a mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three fur-
longs In 38 2-ssec. Serena looks well above average. She has not looked back since Masterton, and her prospects this week are bright. Tarim is also thriving. He resumed at Bulls on Saturday, but a race may improve him. Alaska, which is very fit. beat Janeen, which shied at a marker pole by the three furlongs, by three lengths over a mile in Imin 49 l-ssec, the last three in 42 3-5. Alaska has rarely worked better. He will be a big danger in his attempt to win his second New Zealand Cup. On the inside trial, Te Pari Star sped over five furlongs in Imin 22-3 sec. the last three in 38 2-ssec. She has been working brilliantly.
