Failure Of Appeal

Segundo, which showed some versatility at Gore on Monday when he won over hurdles at his first attempt as a jumper and came out later in the day to finish second against the middle distance hacks after receiving a poor run, will not race again until the third day of the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton.
His trainer. R. E. Humphries, said yesterday the Otaio Plate would be Segundo’s mission. He will probably go north this week with the two-year-old Great Match, which showed some ability In being placed the first day at Gore.
The Southland District Racing Committee yesterday dismissed the appeal by the owners of Segundo, Mr and Mrs R. A. McDonald, over the horse’s relegation from first to second irr the Oreti Hack Handicap at Invercargill on October 9. Segundo won the race from Castle Gregory but was relejto second because of alleged interference.
