Obituary MR C. R. J. LAVERY

NELSON, October 26.
Mr Cyril R. J. Lavery, a senior member of the Nelson “Evening Mail” editorial staff and a well-known figure in New Zealand journalism, died early yesterday. He was 63 and married. His career in journalism began when he joined “The Press,” Christchurch, 47 years ago. He worked on newspapers in both New Zealand and Australia and before coming to the “Evening Mail” about 10 years ago was editor of the “Hokitika Guardian.”
Mr Lavery was a staunch supporter of the principles of trade unionism and was president of the Nelson Journalists’ Union for three years. He represented the union at conferences on a number of
