SPECIAL GRANT TO AUTHOR

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Oct. 26. Miss Janet Frame, this year’s Robert Burns fellow at the University of Otago, has been given a special grant from the fellowship fund to enable her to complete a collection of short stories. This is in addition to the award of the 1966 fellowship to Mr J. K. Baxter. It is the first time a special grant has been made from the fund which was established in 1958. The rules of the fellowship allow for it to be held for two years, but none of the fellows so far have had it for more than one year. Miss Frame plans to include 80 to 40 short stories in her

new book of which she has completed about a third. The amount of the grant was not available today from the selection committee
