STEEL CO. LIAISON
Residents’ Committee
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 26. A committee of Glenbrook residents will be set i up for liaison with New Zealand Steel. Ltd., over problems which may arise , in the construction and I operation of an iron and steel industry at Glenbrook. Sir Woolf Fisher, chairman of directors of the company, has already given an assurance that the company will always be prepared to meet such a committee. The decision to set up a committee arises from intense local interest in the establishment of the steel mill. About 200 persons, including representatives of almost every household in Glenbrook, attended a recent meeting at which Sir Woolf Fisher outlined plans for the mill. He said the Government thought it inadvisable to offer New Zealand steel shares to the public until production had started. i A prospectus would probably be issued and the public invited to subscribe in about 18 months. A decision would be made l lin two to three months on I whether to shift the ironsands to the mill site by road, rail I or pipeline. The company would estab-< lish bursaries and scholarships ' for prospective staff.
