Haast Pass Road Well Serviced

WELLINGTON, Sept 15. The toilet shortage on the Haast Pass road had been remedied, members of the National Roads Board learned today. The secretary (Mr C. N. Johnson) said these facilities were being provided at Paringa by the Ministry of The Tourist and Publicity Department was spending £2500 for the provision of facilities at Haast and a similar amount at Pleasant Flat.
At Makarora the proprietor of Haast Tourist Services was also providing facilities “With the other facilities provided by service stations and establishments, the coverage may be regarded as adequate,” Mr Johnson said. The Director of Reading (Mr J. H. Macky) said that the road itself was being completed as quickly as possible, though there was "a bit of a race” to bridge the last gap before the opening date' of November 6.
The board decided to prohibit the movement of caravans over the section between Harihari and The Neck at Hawea on opening day.
