WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. January 2—or another substitute day— Is added to the existing nine statutory paid Holidays to be provided by the Arbitration L •* ll | I r- 111 industrial awards under an Indus- ' ini Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill.
The bill was introduced in Parliament today. Many awards already incorporate January 2, or a substitute as a statutory holiday in addition to annual holidays. The others are Christmas Day, Boxing Day. New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monjday, Anzac Day, Labour Day, ;the Queen's Birthday and An- ■ niversary Day, or another day I in its place. A Shops and Offices Amendment Bill, also introduced in ; Parliament today, gives legal authority for the existing practice of holding more than one late shopping night a week, [particularly during Christmas I week. The Arbitration Court recently held that there was no ! (provision in the Act for transferring the late night normally due at New’ Year's Eve to | the previous week, and then (having two, even if employers and workers did agree. I The bill validates existing !awards which allow more than I one late closing night a week land authorises the provision (in any award. , In practice, agreement between employers and workers will be necessary in each case.
