Soccer Clubs May Win Gate Money

Soccer clubs playing at English Park next season will have the opportunity of winning a percentage of the gross gate if clubs agree to a scheme proposed by the secretarytreasurer of the Canterbury Football Association (Mr N. R. Dixon).

He has suggested that the winning clubs at English Park receive 15 per cent of the gross gate on all occasions when the gate receipts are more than £2O. In the event of a drawn game, the money would go to the C.F.A. The clubs to play at English Park would be the top two teams in the current competition. When these two played each other the third team in the competition would play at English Park.

The C.F.A. would continue to pay 25 per cent of the gates to the City Council for the use of English Park, and with another 30 per cent paid out to the clubs (when both matches were won) it would retain 45 per cent for its own expenses.

“Although this would mean less money coming to the C.F.A. initially, I do not think it will remain that way,” said Mr Dixon.

“This would ensure that every team will play at English Park during the season but will also prove an additional incentive to get to the top.” said Mr Dixon. “The chance of winning a sum of money for the club will also put that little extra bite into the games. The money would be paid out to the clubs and what they did with it would be their own business.”

“I hope that clubs due to play at English Park will bring along more supporters when they know they will be getting a cut in the gate money.

“And with this additional incentive for clubs to aim at, their football will attract more spectators.” So that the scheme can be operated next season, a decision may be made by the clubs at the half-yearly meeting on October 26.
