New Scheme For Senior Cricket

The senior club cricket competition this season will be divided into two sections of four teams after the seventh round.

The annual general meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association decided this course last evening, but referred to the incoming management committee the matter of promotion-relegation. The management committee’s recommendation with regard to the splitting of the competition was adopted, with an amendment to the games to be played by the bottom four clubs. The committee recommended that the bottom teams play in a one-day competition after the seventh round, but this was amended to two-day games. Poor Preparation Mr W. A. Hadlee said that under the committee’s recommendation, some representative players would be playing one-day cricket from midFebruary to the end of March —a poor preparation for play-

ers due to appear against overseas visiting teams. Mr Hadlee also favoured a promotion-relegation match being played at the beginning of a new season, but because he could not move this as an amendment —because it involved a change of rule—he asked the matter be referred back to the committee. This was carried.

Hours Of Play.— A move by the High School Old Boys’ club, to alter the hours of senior and second grade A to 12 noon to 6 p.m., was defeated for the second successive year. 'Hours of play for all grades are unchanged from last season.

Labour Day.—A move that no competition cricket be played on Labour Day was narrowly beaten. One-Day Cricket. The meeting supported a management committee recommendation not to play one-day cricket in the coming season. The meeting also supported, though not unanimously, a recommendation that a singlewicket tournament be held on a Sunday in November. Officers Elected Immediate past president, Mr R. C.
