50 Pilots Accept (Special Crspdt. N.Z P A.) LONDON, Sept. 15. British Overseas Airways Corporation's “golden handshake” scheme to reduce its number of pilots has been terminated.
Fifty pilots have accepted compensation up to £lO,OOO each, reducing their number to the planned 900. The scheme embracing the whole corporation was introduced a year ago. So far about 800 employees have left and the airline’s staff total is below 20,000. The scheme remains open in other than the pilots’ department for another 15 months. By then the total will have been reduced to just more than 17,000.
