NEW YORK, Sept. 15.

New’ York’s sft 2in City Controller Mr Abraham Beame, will be the Democratic candidate for Mayor of New York city in November’s elections.

His main rival in yesterday’s Democratic primary election, Mr Paul Screvane, conceded defeat at midnight, two hours after the polls closed.

Mr Screvane, the City Council president, was backed by the retiring Mayor, Mr Robert Wagner, and had been most heavily favoured to win the nomination.
