Noted N.Z. Landscape Artist Dies
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND Sept. 15. The noted New Zealand painter and art lecturer, Mr John Weeks, has died in Auckland, aged 77. One of the country’s leading artists, Mr Weeks was particularly interested in T 'erpreting the New Zealand landscape. Born in Devonshire, he came to New Zealand in 1908 and received his first art training in Auckland. After serving in France during World War I he travelled extensively, painting in Morocco, Corsica, Italy and France.
He joined the staff of the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1229 and was senior lecturer in painting for four years before retiring in 1954. A prolific painter, Mr Weeks was a council member of the Auckland Society of Arts and won several awards for his painting. He was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1958 for his services to art.
