Springs Junction Tea-Room
Sir, Congratulations to Mountain View Holdings What perception and foresight, above all a development of aesthetic value to add to our wonderful scenery! My sincere hope is that people responsible for developments in other scenic areas will note it. The area is planned as a whole, landscaped and planted, signs specially designed; above all—no advertising. Let us hope that the designers of the proposed village at Mount Cook will keep in mind this beautiful and inspired village. Already many of our beautiful Southern Lakes and scenic areas have been spoilt by commercialism, ugly buildings unsuitable cottages, etc. These do not add to the landscape, and show no planning or foresight. We need stricter control and supervision before it is too late. Let us leave a legacy future generations will appreciate, scenic areas of beauty.—Yours, etc.
JOSE SEYMOUR. Mount Cook, September 13, 1965.
Sir, —I know nothing about Springs Junction, but from the letter from Betty and Fred McDonald, it seems that a couple never progressed from a tin shack and evidently in the end gave up the unprofitable business because of scroungers who never paid their way. I hope the new de velopment is successful and gets plenty of satisfied customers, who will be willing to meet a reasonable charge Only in this way can New Zealand “grow up.”—Yours, etc., EAST COAST ROAD FAN. September 13, 1965.
