DOUBLE TAX AGREEMENT

Re-negotiation of the double taxation agreement between New Zealand and the United Kingdom Governments had been delayed because of major tax changes in Britain, the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) said in Parliament today. Mr R. J. Tizzard (Opn., Pakuranga) had asked Mr Lake if he had made any progress with re-negotiating the agreement to ensure that persons living in New Zealand and drawing retirement allowances from Britain would not become liable for double taxation. “New Zealand has taken positive steps to ensure that pensioner residents in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom will pay no greater New Zealand tax. yhan they djd during the currency of the New Zealand-United Kingdom double tax agreement,” Mr Lake said.
