AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES

<N Z Press Assn —Copyright) SYDNEY, July 13 The initial series of Sydney wool auctions for the 1965-66 season was continued today under strong competition especially from Japan, with good support from the Continent. United Kingdom and Australian mills, the official wool brokers report said today. The market, compared with the levels of yesterday, ruled firm for practically all descriptions of Merino fleece, with any change in values being in favour of the seller The shorter stapled fleece types and prematurely shorn wools met with a restricted demand and rates for these were irregular and at times cheaper. Merino skirtings were keenly sought and rates for these remained fully firm.

Comeback and crossbreds ruled very firm on the previous day’s levels, with a very keen demand for medium to strong crossbreds.

The offering was made up mainly of good to average style Merino topmaking wools, with a small proportion of spinner types. The clips were drawn principally from the central western and far western districts with the north and northwestern slopes and plains and the Riverina well represented.

There was a small offering of average style comebacks The offering was 15,014 bales and 14.535 bales, or 96.80 per cent, were sold. Crossbred prices: 60’s good at 70d. sfl’s good average at 64d
