Soccer Coach Signs Contract
’ The New Brighton soccer club will not lose the services of its professional player-coach, T. Conley, at the end of the season.
A statement issued by the club last night stated that Conley, the Canterbury representative inside-forward, had signed a three-year contract, to take effect from the end of the current season.
“The general policy of the contract will be to extend training and coaching sessions to include up-and-com-ing juniors, and more concentration will be given on these juniors,” said the statement. “The 1966 season will bring from our graded teams junior players up to senior status and towards their play-
ing ability more effort will i be directed.” Conley, who held a sea- I sonal contract with the club, ;
recently asked fur it to be terminated because of the failure of senior players to attend training sessions.
The club refused to end the contract and Conley gave notice that he would probably not renew it at the end of the season. Several clubs made him attractive offers. Last night Conley explained his change of mind. “I have been allowed to draw up my own contract and I have got what I wanted, control over the junior players.
“There is tremendous potential talent in the club among the junior players, and I will be concentrating
my greatest efforts upon these. “1 did not want to leave New Brighton. I have many friends in the dub, and the committee has now given me 100 per cent backing. “I’m very glad it has ended this way. Now I have the time and the support and the material to try and do a worthwhile job.”
