Rider Suspended; Horse Relegated
E. G. Low, Riccarton’s most successful jockey this season, was suspended from race riding until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at a Wingatui inquiry on Saturday.
Low rode the Riceartontrained Sabell into second
place behind Cranbrook in the Members’ Handicap, the! second leg of the T.A.B j double, but the committee found that Sabell had caused interference to Bold Venture. Sabell was relegated to fourth, Glenmorven was promoted to second and Bold Venture to third. The committee found that i Low had allowed Sabell to shift a considerable distance [and had taken too effective (action to straighten the horse [ The result, the committee claimed, was that Bold VenI ture could not be ridden i right out. Bold Venture earned a trip
to Trentham with this run, but all the honours of the race were with Cranbrook. The South Canterbury sprinter mastered 9.11 for this, his second win at the
meeting, and he was brought forward to challenge on the inside, where the ground was heaviest.
