DISPLACING SCOTCH
Distillers’ Aim In Australia (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, May 28. A campaign to displace Scotch whisky from favouritism among Australian whisky drinkers is well under way. The campaign is being sponsored by the Australian Whisky, Gin and Vodka Distillers’ Association. According to the association 50 per cent of take-home sales of whisky comprise Australian whisky, but in the bar trade Scotch had at least 90 per cent of the trade because it was fashionable to order Scotch. A spokesman for the association said few people were able to tell the difference between Australian - made whisky and whisky produced in other countries, such as Scotch and Bourbon.
