DRINKING HOURS
Chartered Club Views The policy of the Association of Chartered Clubs of New Zealand on the subject of staggered drinking hours has been restated by the president (Mr A. R. McKay) in a letter to the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan). Mr McKay said his association had noted that the Government was at present considering amendments to the Sale of Liquor Act 1962, par- , ticularly in respect to bowl- , ing and golf clubs. The association’s policy on hours of trading was that they should be maintained at the < existing 54 hours a week, except that individual clubs should be permitted to arrange their hours to suit their ■ members, said Mr McKay in 1 his letter. “By this means, clubs could ; open in the evening, by clos- ' ing their bars for an equiva--1 lent period in the daytime. Such arrangement of hours e to be approved by the district 5 licensing committee or local , magistrate. “By this means, members, j particularly those in rural . areas, could enjoy the full amenities of their clubs,” the letter concluded.
