Roche in the aH-Australian men’s singCes final ©f the French hardcourt tennis championships. The 26-year-o£d StoGle, who has frequently been runner-up In the world's leading tournaments. beat Roche. 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3. The 20-year-old Roche had eliminated R. Emerson, the world’s leading amateur, in the semi-finals. Stoble, who had started loosely, quickly found his touch in the second set and then never looked bike being beaten. Earlier, there had been an upset when Miss M. E. Bueno, the Brazilian holder of the Wimbledon singles, was beaten. 2-6, 6-4, 8-6, by the Australian, Miss L. Turner, in the women’s ••ingles semi-finals. Miss Turner qualified to meet the top seeded Australian, Mi&s M. Smith, winner here in 1962 and 1964, in the final. Miss Smith defeated the American, Miss N. Richey, 7-5, 6-4. Mrs® Bueno lost two opportunities to beat Miss Turner when she led in the second and third sets with her own service to foblow. In the women's doubles final, Misses Smith and Turner beat F. Durr and J. Liefrig (France), 6-3, 6-1.
