DAY FOR PARENTS
Aranui High School
Aranui High School held an open day for parents and prospective pupils on Saturday. It was the fourth time the school has set aside a day to give parents a better appreciation of school life and the surroundings in which their children are educated. ... t The headmaster (Mr W. J. A. Brittenden) said yesterday that he believed parents, as taxpayers, were entitled to see where their money was going. The main reason, however, for holding an open day was to give those parents who were in any doubt an opportunity to see where their children were ■ going. Mr Brittenden said parents went away impressed by the ! prefects who had acted as guides for the visitors, and > by the facilities available for ! teaching. This would apply to any school which parents i visited. A pamphlet giving : information on the school . was distributed during the ■ day. “The numbers attending the open day have fallen off since the scheme started, but it is only because more people in the district have seen the school and have had more opportunities to visit it for various activities. This year there has been a marked increase in the num- £ ber of children, presumably e prospective pupils, who have “ come along unescorted by “ parents,” Mr Brittenden said.
