FED. FARMER SECRETARY

Retiring For Second Time “If we did not have a prosperous farming industry, the grass would grow in the city streets,” Mr A. E. G. Lyttle, the retiring secretary of North Canterbury Federated Farmers, said at the annual provincial conference. Mr Lyttle, who retires for the second time in the very near future, was replying to tributes paid by members attending the conference to his service during his long association with farmers’ organisations. At present it seemed that on one hand incentives were being offered to farmers to build up the industry, while on the other hand they were being undermined, he said. “However, you might not be rid of me yet,” Mr Lyttle said. “I am retiring for the second time, but 1 have heard of people in the Post Office who have retired three times.”
